Here we will be taking a look at possible prospects in each round of the draft for the Redskins. Even with free agency at the twighlight stage the ‘Skins still have a lot of holes to fill on the roster. With the Redskins saying that they are open to trading the 5th overall pick, I will also have possible players the Redskins could target if they trade back. So I hope you enjoy!
Players/Positions in order from what I think what position they should target with that pick.

Thrid Round Pick 69:
Guard:
Tre’ Jackson
Ali Marpet
Donovan Smith
The Redskins organization doesn’t believe that guard is a pressing need as much as the fans do. They believe Chris Chester has performed well enough, and also said the Spencer Long will compete for the starting job this offseason. But they do know they need to upgrade the position. Tre’ Jackson is everything you want in a guard, he just needs to work on technique and would be able to start right away. Ali Marpet is from a D-III school but he has big potential, but would be a project the next few years. He performed well at the senior bowl playing guard or center, and would be a big bodied player that the ‘Skins want on the line. Donovan Smith played right tackle at Penn State, but he is projected to be a better guard in the NFL. He has the size that Gruden, Callahan, and McCloughan want and should be able to compete with Chester and Long in his rookie season.

Running Back:
T.J. Yeldon
David Johnson
The Redskins lost their 3rd round back Roy Helu Jr. in free agency this offseason. They now have no ligament backup behind Alfred Morris. Silas Redd Jr. only had 16 carries in 2014 while Chris Thompson had 6 receptions. T.J. Yeldon is a hard runner who has great hands and speed. He could easily come in and be the 3rd down back and potential takeover if Washington doesn’t re-sign Alfred Morris. David Johnson is another player who is a physical runner but and also come out of the back field and catch the ball on 3rd downs.

Safeties:
Cody Prewitt
Jaquiski Tartt
The Redskins added Johnson and Goldson to start in as the safeties this season, but that doesn’t mean this area is fixed. Jeron Johnson has only started one NFL game and Goldson was one of the worst safeties in football the past two seasons. So adding a safety in the draft should be a priority. Cody Prewitt’s film doesn’t lie, he is good in coverage and could play the “robber” spot, has good closing burst, and has the size McCloughan likes in the secondary. Jaquiski Tartt is coming from a smaller school but many scouts believe he has SEC talent, and some consider him the best safety in the draft, and he has good size.

Cornerbacks:
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
Steven Nelson
Josh Shaw
Alex Carter
Doran Grant
The Redskins added Chris Culliver this offseason to play opposite of (most likely) Bashaud Breeland. Behind them the Redskins have DHall, Porter, and Amerson; Hall and Porter are coming of injury filled seasons and Amerson to a big step in the wrong direction. The Redskins would be smart to add another corner, preferably a slot corner. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu is coming off ACL surgery, but if he wasn’t he would probably be a first round selection. He’d be a great slot CB when he fully recovers and is one of the hardest hitters in the draft this season, which would bring a good vibe to the secondary. Steven Nelson (a.k.a Mighty Mouse) is an underrated player and has a lot of potential, he could start right away and become a top corner in the league, one of the only knocks on him, is his size. Josh Shaw and Alex Carter are both bigger corners who would most likely transition to safety in the NFL and also have a lot of upside. Doran Grant is projected to be more of a slot corner in the NFL because of his size, but he is smart, plays the ball well, and has a willingness to tackle.

Quarterback:
Garrett Grayson
The Redskins are most likely going to add a QB from wither the 3rd round or later (and possibly 2nd) since they don’t have a QB under contact for the 2016 season. Garrett Grayson would be a great selection, they could coach him up and in a few years possibly compete for a starting job if Robert Griffin III doesn’t bounce back. Grayson doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he has good accuracy and came from a pro-style offense, so he should be able to learn how to read defenses in the NFL a little faster than some other rookie QBs.

Edge Rushers:
Hau’oli Kikaha
Lorenzo Mauldin
If the Redskins still haven’t addressed the OLB position, they should give a hard look at Hau’oli Kikaha he is one of the most underrated players in the draft and has a lot of potential. He’s one of the best pure pass-rushers in this class and has a relentless motor. And while he needs to work on stopping the run, he has all the tools to be able to do it, and just needs to be coached up. Lorenzo Mauldin is a great person and he is also every good on the field. While he is mainly beating tackles to get to the quarterback, he also can find the ball quickly and chases against the run, and is very active.

My Pick: Tre' Jackson, G, Florida State
Backup Option: Cody Prewitt, S, Ole Miss or T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
